Grand Father hear me!
How is it you bore white man
coming onto the Mother's face
with their spiked boots
and calling her cheek their own?
Grand Mother how much corn did you
reap before you were granted a grain to eat?
How many of your children died in their hands?
How many of your brothers died for them to claim the land?
And how bitter their words against you people
and how humbly you gave
till they took you and made you slaves.....
and spit on your suffering with hatred.....
tell me how did you bear their cross?
That they put upon your backs
to worship their God
and lay their tracks.....
How did your people bear this Grand Father?
When they fenced you in
and called it Your Reservation?
Holding tight to the Ancestor's promise
of a new future even for them
